Seminar Title:
Dr. Yoshiki Yamaguchi is a Team Leader of Structural Glycobiology Team, Systems Glycobiology Research Group, RIKEN Global Research Cluster, Japan. Dr. Yamaguchi received his Ph.D. in 1998 at Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the University of Tokyo (Profs. Ichio Shimada and Yoji Arata). From 2001 to 2007, Dr. Yamaguchi was a lecturer at Nagoya City University (Prof. Koichi Kato) and then moved to his current position at RIKEN. He has been holding the posts concurrently in Nagoya City University (2007-), Tokyo Medical and Dental University (2008-), Ochanomizu University (2010-), Fukushima Medical University (2011-), and Tokyo University of Science (2015-) as a visiting professor.
Structural Glycobiology Team was launched with the aim of determining the 3D structure of such carbohydrate chains and lectins and thereby gaining an understanding of their function. In order to achieve this, his team is developing a multidisciplinary and comprehensive strategy based on a combination of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, molecular dynamics simulation and bioinformatics. His current study focuses on development of NMR techniques for structural analyses of glycans, glycoproteins and glycan-related proteins.
